# ZK Login & Identity

### Overview

ZK Login is a cryptographic authentication mechanism that allows users to log into blockchain-based applications using their existing Web2 accounts, such as Gmail, without exposing any personal identity information on-chain.

At its core, ZK Login works by cryptographically proving to the blockchain that a Gmail account belongs to you, and then assigning a temporary (ephemeral) key pair to make transactions on behalf of your Gmail-derived wallet address. From the user's perspective, this feels like a standard OAuth login. Behind the scenes, however, several sophisticated steps take place.
